Musa Alaihissalam (Moses)
Bismillah Hirrahman Nirrahim
Musa Alaihissalam (Moses)
Musa
Alaihissalam (Moses), the son of "Imran", was born in Egypt 450 years
after Yusuf(PBUH)(Joseph). At that time the kings in Egypt were known as
Firaun(Pharaoh). The followers of Prophet Yaqub, father of Prophet Yusuf are
called "Bani Israel"(Israelites). Bani Israel lived in Egypt since
the days of Prophet Yusuf. Prophet Yaqub was known as Israel.
Firaun the ruler of Egypt, looked
the Bani Israel as 'Foreigners' and treated them badly. He feared that one day
Bani Israel would grow in number and be powerful. So Firaun issued orders to
kill every male child born in the family of Israel(28:4-6).
Musa(PBUH)
was born in this critical time. His Mother managed to conceal him for three
months and when she could not manage any longer, she was inspired by Allah(SWT)
to put Musa(PBUH) in a waterproof basket and throw it into the river(20:38-39).
Maryam Musa's sister was asked to watch the floating box from the distance to
avoid suspicion(28:11).
The box
reached the other shore and one of the Firaun's family picked it up and found a
baby boy inside. Musa(PBUH) was taken to Firaun's wife and she was very glad to
have the baby boy and adopted him(28:8-9). Musa's sister went to Firaun's
palace and suggested a nanny to look after the baby a women who would be
suitable to suckle him. this woman was none other than Musa's mother (28:12).
Musa(PBUH) came back to his mother's lap. This is how Allah(SWT) protects
whoever he wills.
Musa(PBUH)
grew up in Firaun's house and during this time he came across an Egyptian who
was beating the Israelite. Musa(PBUH) gave a blow and killed him accidentally
(28:15).
Musa(PBUH)
left the Firaun's house and went to Midian(28:22-28). He stayed there for ten
years before leaving to Tuwa Valley at the foot of mount Sinai. Here Musa(PBUH)
received divine guidance and was selected as a Messenger Of Allah(SWT)(28:30).
Allah(SWT)
bestowed on Musa(PBUH) two sign's "A Stick" which thrown down would
turn into a living serpent and the ability to make his hand shine after it was
drawn out from under his arm(20:17-22).
Allah(SWT)
commanded Musa(PBUH) to go to Firaun and invite him to Tawhid(20:42-44). He
begged Allah(SWT) to make his brother Harun his helper and his prayer has been
granted(20:24-36).
Musa(PBUH)
and Harun went to Firaun. They exhorted him to bey Allah(SWT) and grant the
Israelites their freedom. Firaun refused to do so(20:47-54;26:16-17). Instead
he made fun of them.
Musa(PBUH)
showed his signs to impress upon the Firaun that his message was true. He threw
his stick to the ground and it changed into serpent. Musa(PBUH) picked it up
and turned it to back to stick. Firaun and his followers amazed to see this but
he thought that Musa(PBUH) was a magician and challenged him to face his own
magician who could show more magic.(26:23-37).
On
the appointed day the magician of Firaun were badly defeated. The false snakes
they produced by their sticks were all swallowed by the serpent of Musa's
stick. Firaun and his magicians could not believe their eyes. His Magicians
bowed to the truth and professed their faith in Allah(SWT)(26:38-47).
Firaun
become angry and began to torture the Bani Israel even more. During this time
Allah(SWT) commanded Musa(PBUH) to leave the Egypt with his followers(20:77).
Musa(PBUH) asked his followers to get ready and they leave at night to avoid
Firaun's attention and reached the shore of the sea. They were chased by Firaun
and his soldiers. They almost caught the Israelites, in front of whom was a
mighty sea. At this time Allah(SWT) Ordered Musa(PBUH) to throw the stick in
the water and as he did so the sea divided into two and a road was ready in the
middle, allowing the Israelites to cross(26:2-65).
Firaun
followed, Musa(PBUH) and his people safely reached the other shore. Firaun and
his soldiers were still in the middle of the sea when suddenly the water on
both sides began to pour over them.
Firaun
and his soldiers were drowned (26:66). This is how Allah(SWT) punishes the
transgressors and helps his servants.
Jazakallah
